An Enviable Man

An enviable man, I want one thing
And one thing only: people should admit
That I am great at everything, I sit
Upon the throne of Truth, the blackbirds sing
My own immortal name (where is thy sting,
O Death?). The heavens every night are lit
With stars extolling me. Is it not fit
That all the universe should crown me king?

My talents, grace, and sheer humility
Make all men happy, and all women sigh,
While animals bow down their heads and cry,
"Oh, how the world has been enriched, how free
Is our devotion!" Even rocks agree
On what an enviable man am I.
