My Eyes

My eyes are fixed on where they shouldn't be,
But I am human, full of fears, and weak;
What I desire, recoil from, ponder, seek,
And choose, I do it all unconsciously.
I run from fate, embrace the destiny
We'll reach from just turning the other cheek
And letting enemies, our worst selves, speak
For us, for everyone, for faith, for free.

I will lift up my eyes, look into yours,
I will awake from this enchanted sleep,
I will engage with history's grand sweep,
I will shut off the past and open doors,
I will connect with all that love restores,
And then this mountain will not seem so steep.
