Embark Alone

In reference to what we spoke about
While you were waiting for your ship to sail,
I see you with a shovel and a pail
On white sand beaches, hiding a sharp pout,
Smile overwhelmed by loneliness and doubt,
I see you staring at your fingernail,
Deciding what it means to try and fail,
Imagining a mighty, empty shout.

That's what your life has been, until this week,
When you decided to embark, alone.
This voyage will become your lungs, and bone,
The undercarriage of the truth you seek,
The true inheritance of the not-meek.
You failed before. What comes next is unknown.
