Words of Regret

I always do whatever love commands,
Although I know that love is mostly lies:
The deadly nightshade gleaming in her eyes,
The smooth skin (mayonnaise and monkey glands),
The sweet smile, shining hair, the gentle hands,
Words of regret, it's all a rank disguise,
A stinking trap. I feel my hackles rise;
It's something that a wise heart understands.

I've been betrayed, besmirched, bewitched, bereaved,
Mocked menacingly, given in to fear,
And risen to the upper atmosphere
By riding on hot air. I've been deceived,
Encircled, ridiculed, annoyed, aggrieved,
Asked for assistance. Tell them help is here.
