Think About a Kiss [for my wife on Feb. 14, 2019]

My Valentine is clamouring for me
To read a poem that's as clear as glass,
Transparent to the point where, as we pass,
We feel it as invisibility.
This poem isn't that, as certainly
As you can see it, dabbling in class
And, like a light wave, also having mass.
This is the kind of verse people can see.

And what exactly do they find in this,
A newborn sonnet, loving and opaque,
A heavyweight of verse, for heaven's sake,
Regarded, viewed, a song you just can't miss?
Perhaps you'll stop, and think about a kiss,
And smile. You know my tender heart's at stake.
